About This Tool

If 1,000 people visit your website and 25 of them buy, is that good or bad? The answer starts with your conversion rate, the share of visitors who complete the action you want. The Conversion Rate Calculator finds that rate and adds the sales numbers that go with it.

Enter your visitors, your orders (or sign-ups), and your average order value. The tool shows your conversion rate, total sales revenue, revenue per visitor, and the visitors needed for 100 orders. It suits online store owners, marketers, and anyone who wants to judge a landing page with real numbers.

What the Calculator Does

The tool recalculates as you type. There is no submit button. It gives you five results from three inputs.

  • Conversion Rate: conversions divided by visitors, shown as a percent with two decimals.
  • Total Sales Revenue: conversions times average order value.
  • Revenue Per Visitor (RPV): how much each visit is worth on average.
  • Visitors Needed for 100 Orders: visitors required to produce 100 orders at your current rate.
  • Orders per 10k Visitors: a standard yardstick for comparing pages or campaigns.
  • Copy Conversion Metrics and Reset buttons.

How to Use It, Step by Step

  1. Enter the number of people who visited in Total Visitors / Traffic. Use a whole number of at least 1.
  2. Enter the number who bought or signed up in Total Conversions / Orders.
  3. Enter what the average buyer spends in Average Order Value ($). For sign-ups, use the value of one lead.
  4. Read the large conversion rate, then check the four cards below it. A red message with dashes means an entry is blank or invalid.
  5. Press Copy Conversion Metrics to copy a text summary, or Reset to restore the sample values.

The Conversion Rate Formulas

All results come from the same three numbers. The main formula is simple division.

Conversions÷Visitors×100=Conversion Rate %
  • Revenue = conversions × average order value.
  • Revenue per visitor = revenue ÷ visitors.
  • Visitors for 100 orders = 100 × visitors ÷ conversions, rounded up to a whole visitor.
  • Orders per 10k visitors = (rate ÷ 100) × 10,000, rounded to a whole order.

Worked Example

Owen sells hand-poured candles online. Last month his store had 42,000 visitors and 1,134 orders. Shoppers spent $72.50 per order on average.

ResultCalculationOutput
Conversion Rate1,134 ÷ 42,000 × 1002.70%
Total Sales Revenue1,134 × $72.50$82,215.00
Revenue Per Visitor$82,215 ÷ 42,000$1.96 / Visitor
Visitors Needed for 100 Orders100 × 42,000 ÷ 1,134, rounded up3,704 Visitors
Orders per 10k Visitors0.027 × 10,000270 Orders

Owen now knows each visit is worth about $1.96. That sets a ceiling on what he can reasonably pay to attract one visitor.

How to Read the Results

Conversion Rate tells you how well your page turns attention into action. Rates vary a lot by industry, device, and traffic source. Compare yours to your own past months before you compare it to anyone else.

Revenue Per Visitor blends conversion and order size into one number. Two stores with the same rate can earn very different amounts per visit if their order values differ.

Visitors Needed for 100 Orders turns the rate into a planning number. At 2.70%, Owen needs about 3,704 visitors to see 100 orders. If your conversions are 0, this card shows N/A.

Orders per 10k Visitors makes it easy to compare channels of different sizes.

Ways to Put Your Conversion Rate to Work

Revenue per visitor sets a budget for paid traffic. If a click costs more than a visit is worth, you lose money unless repeat purchases make up the gap. The cost per click calculator shows what each click, impression, and click-through rate costs you.

To judge a campaign, compare cost with results. The cost per acquisition calculator shows what you pay for each order. The return on ad spend calculator shows the revenue you earn per ad dollar.

Conversion is only the first purchase. Customers who return are worth far more, and you can measure that with the customer retention rate calculator. To project monthly and yearly sales from your price and volume, use the revenue calculator.

Limitations and Assumptions

  • The tool treats every visitor as one person. If your analytics count sessions, your rate is a session rate.
  • Visitors must be a whole number of at least 1. Conversions must be whole, 0 or more, and no higher than visitors.
  • A blank or invalid box shows a red message and dashes. A blank order value counts as $0.
  • Revenue assumes every order equals the average. It does not model refunds, discounts, or shipping.
  • The traffic figure assumes your rate stays the same as traffic grows, which often is not true.
  • Copy Conversion Metrics includes all three inputs and all five results, or says "Fix inputs first."

FAQs About the Conversion Rate Calculator

What is a good conversion rate for an online store?

Many online stores see rates between 1 and 4 percent, but results vary by product price and traffic source. A low-cost item usually converts better than a costly one. Track your own trend over time.

What counts as a conversion?

Any action you choose to measure: a purchase, a sign-up, a booking, or a download. Use one definition consistently. Then enter the matching visitor count for the same period.

Why does revenue per visitor matter?

It shows what each visit earns, no matter how many people buy. You can compare it with your cost per click to see whether paid traffic pays off.

What does "Visitors Needed for 100 Orders" mean?

It is the number of visitors required to produce 100 orders at your current conversion rate. Doubling your rate roughly halves that number.

Can I use it for lead forms instead of sales?

Yes. Enter form submissions as conversions and the dollar value of one lead as the order value. Revenue then becomes the estimated value of those leads.

Why is my conversion rate over 100 percent?

This tool does not allow it. If conversions exceed visitors, it shows a message instead of a rate. That usually means the two numbers cover different periods or sources. Match them, then try again.
