How do you print a small booklet from a plain PDF? The pages must be reordered so they read correctly after you fold the sheets. The PDF Booklet Creator does that reordering and puts two pages on each sheet.
You upload one PDF and download a new file with the pages in booklet print order. It suits teachers, club leaders, and anyone who wants a folded program or zine.

What the Tool Does
The tool rearranges your pages into pairs for saddle-stitch folding. Each pair sits side by side on one landscape sheet.
- An upload box for a click or a drop. Its label reads "Drag & drop PDF to generate 2-up booklet layout."
- A status line that begins as "Ready."
- One button, Generate & Download Booklet PDF. It is always enabled, but with no file it shows "Please choose a PDF file first."
- No settings. The sheet size follows your first page, and margins are fixed.
How to Use It, Step by Step
- Click the upload box, or drop one PDF on it.
- Wait for the status "PDF loaded. Ready to build saddle-stitch booklet."
- Click Generate & Download Booklet PDF. The status shows "Generating booklet page order..."
- The download starts by itself as pdf-booklet-imposition.pdf, and the status summarizes the booklet.
- Print double-sided, fold the stack in half, and staple the fold.
How It Works
The tool first rounds your page count up to a multiple of four.
Choose PDF→Pad to multiple of 4→Pair pages for folding→Download sheets
Pages beyond your real count stay empty. The first sheet front holds the last page on the left and page 1 on the right. The back holds page 2 on the left and the second-to-last page on the right.
This pattern repeats toward the middle of the booklet. Fronts and backs alternate all the way through.
A Walkthrough With Dana
Dana has a 10-page church program on A4 pages. The tool rounds 10 up to 12, so pages 11 and 12 stay empty. The result has 6 sheet sides, which print on 3 sheets of paper.
| Sheet Side | Left Page | Right Page |
| 1 (front) | Empty | 1 |
| 2 (back) | 2 | Empty |
| 3 (front) | 10 | 3 |
| 4 (back) | 4 | 9 |
| 5 (front) | 8 | 5 |
| 6 (back) | 6 | 7 |
The status ends with "Done. 2-up booklet on A4 landscape sheets: 10 pages plus 2 blank pages added to fill the last sheet, 6 sheet sides (3 sheets of paper). Your download has started." Dana prints double-sided and folds the three sheets together.
Reading the Result
The first page decides the paper. If its shape is closer to US Letter than to A4, you get Letter landscape sheets (792 by 612 points). Otherwise you get A4 landscape sheets (842 by 595 points).
Each sheet has two slots, with 20 point outer margins and a 20 point center gap. An A4 slot is 391 by 555 points, and a Letter slot is 366 by 572 points. Pages are scaled to fit and centered, never stretched.
An A4 page fills its A4 slot almost edge to edge. A US Letter page on a Letter sheet fills the slot width and leaves a little space above and below.
Printing Tips
Do a test with three sheets before you print a long run. Add numbers first with the page numbers tool. Fix the order with the reorder PDF pages tool.
Turn sideways pages with the rotate PDF pages tool. For a plain grid with no folding, use the PDF N-Up creator. Printer-specific help comes from the PDF duplex print optimizer. See the PDF tools hub for more.
File Handling and Privacy
The pdf-lib library loads from a public script host. Your PDF is read and rebuilt in your browser. The code has no upload request, and the download is created on your device. The tool keeps no copy, so choose the file again each visit.
Limitations and Assumptions
- The paper is only A4 or US Letter, picked from your first page. Other shapes are fitted into the nearer one.
- Only 2-up saddle-stitch order is offered. Page counts are always padded to a multiple of four.
- The button is disabled while the tool works, so one click gives one download.
- One file at a time. Large files may take a while, since all pages are read in your browser.
FAQs About the PDF Booklet Creator
Why does the booklet need a multiple of four pages?
One folded sheet makes four booklet pages, two on each side. The tool pads your count up to the next multiple of four with empty pages.
What happens with mixed page sizes?
Only the first page sets the sheet. Every later page is scaled to fit its slot. To make sizes match first, try the resize PDF pages tool.
Which flip option should I choose when printing?
Landscape sheets usually need the short-edge flip option for double-sided printing. Check one test sheet before you print the full run.
Can I add a cover or a binding gap?
No. There is no cover, binding gap, or reading direction option. The margins and the center gap are fixed at 20 points.
Are links and bookmarks kept?
No. Only page content is copied. Links, form fields, and bookmarks are not carried over to the new file.
What if the file is encrypted?
A red message reads "This PDF could not be processed. It may be encrypted, password-protected, or corrupted." No file is downloaded, so try an unlocked copy.
