Does your scanned form have a dark frame around every page? That frame wastes ink and looks untidy. The Remove PDF Border tool hides the outer strip of each page by trimming the visible area.
It is made for people with scans, forms, or slides that carry a thin frame near the edge. You enter one trim amount in points, and the tool shrinks the visible page on all four sides. It does not erase the frame. It cuts it out of view.

What Remove PDF Border Does
The tool applies the same inward trim to every page. It has one input and one button.
- Edge Trim Amount (pt, 2 to 60): how many points to cut from each side. The sample value is 15.
- Download Trimmed PDF applies the trim and saves the file.
One point is 1/72 of an inch. A trim of 15 points is about 0.21 inch, or 5.3 mm.
How to Use It, Step by Step
- Drop a PDF on the box that reads "Drag & drop a PDF to trim its page edges." You can also click it and choose a file.
- Wait for the status line to read "PDF loaded. Ready to trim page edges."
- Enter a number from 2 to 60 in Edge Trim Amount (pt, 2 to 60).
- Press Download Trimmed PDF. Your browser saves borderless-document.pdf.
- Open the saved file and check each edge. If a frame line remains, raise the number and run it again from your original.
How It Works
The tool opens your PDF with the pdf-lib library. For each page, it sets a new crop box. The box sits inside the page's current visible area by your trim amount.
Upload PDF→Enter Trim in Points→Set Inner Crop Box→Download Trimmed PDF
A crop box tells a viewer which part of the page to show. The tool does not delete anything. The text, lines, and images outside the box stay in the file but are hidden in most viewers.
Choosing a Trim Amount
Pick a number larger than the gap between the page edge and the frame. If the frame sits 10 points in, a trim of 15 hides it. If it sits 30 points in, a trim of 15 leaves it visible.
Trimming too much can cut real content. The cut is the same on all four sides, so the tool cannot trim only the left edge. A blank entry, or a number outside 2 to 60, shows a message and saves nothing.
| Trim (pt) | Cut per Side (in) | Letter Page After Trim |
| 10 | 0.14 | 592 × 772 pt |
| 15 | 0.21 | 582 × 762 pt |
| 36 | 0.50 | 540 × 720 pt |
Privacy and File Handling
Your PDF stays in your browser. The code reads it into memory, sets the crop box with pdf-lib, and saves the file through a browser download. It sends nothing to a server.
The pdf-lib script loads from a public code host. It is only the toolkit and does not receive your file.
Example: Trimming a Scanned Form
Hannah Brooks scans a two page registration form. The scanner left a thin black frame about 10 points inside each edge. Each page is US Letter, which is 612 × 792 points.
Hannah loads the file and sees "PDF loaded. Ready to trim border frames." She leaves the trim at 15 and presses Download Trimmed PDF. The status line reads "Done. Trimmed 2 pages by 15 pt on each side. Your download has started." Each page now shows 582 × 762 points, which is about 8.08 × 10.58 inches. The frame is outside the visible area. Hannah opens the file and finds the page clean at the edges.
The original file is unchanged. The new one keeps the hidden strip inside it, so it is not a secure way to remove content.

If you want to draw a frame instead, use the add PDF border tool. For cutting a custom area, the Crop PDF tool gives more control. To set exact pixel values, try the page crop by pixels tool.
Margins are a different job. The remove PDF margins tool and the add PDF margins tool handle white space. Running text at the top or bottom belongs to Remove Header & Footer. Browse the PDF tools hub for the rest.
Limitations
- The tool crops. It does not find or erase a border. A frame farther in than your trim stays visible.
- The trim is equal on all four sides. You cannot trim one side alone.
- The tool enforces 2 to 60 points. A page too small for your trim gets "Page N is too small." You then enter a smaller amount.
- The hidden strip is still inside the file. Another program may show it again.
- The trim starts from each page's current visible box. A page that was already cropped is trimmed further.
- An encrypted PDF shows a message to remove the password first. A damaged one shows "This PDF could not be processed."
- The tool handles one PDF at a time.
FAQs About the Remove PDF Border
Does Remove PDF Border upload my file?
No. The code processes the file in your browser and sends it nowhere. It keeps no copy after you leave.
Does the tool really erase the border?
No. It hides the outer strip by shrinking the visible area. The border stays inside the file but is out of view in most viewers.
What number should I enter?
Use a number a little larger than the gap between the page edge and the frame. Start at 15 and raise it if the frame still shows. The limit is 60.
Why did my page get smaller?
The visible area shrinks by twice the trim in each direction. A Letter page with a trim of 15 becomes 582 × 762 points.
Can I trim just one side?
No. The same amount comes off the top, bottom, left, and right.
Can I undo the trim later?
Not with this tool. Keep your original file and run the tool again with a new number if needed.
This tool runs in your web browser and may not handle every PDF file, font, or browser the same way. Keep a backup of your original file. Reviewed for general accuracy by Prof. Dr. Khalil Mudassar, PhD.
