About This Tool

How does a search engine find every page on your site? One clear way is an XML sitemap that lists your URLs. The Sitemap Generator turns a list of addresses into that file for you.

This tool is for site owners and developers who want a quick sitemap draft. You paste your URLs, pick a change frequency and a priority, and copy the XML. You then upload the file and submit it yourself.

What the Tool Does

The tool builds a standard XML sitemap from a list of URLs. It uses the sitemaps.org 0.9 format that search engines read.

  • Website URLs: one address per line in the text box.
  • Change Frequency: daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly.
  • Page Priority: 1.0, 0.8, 0.5, or 0.3.
  • Three status cards: Total URLs, Frequency, and Priority.
  • Output box: the full sitemap.xml text, with a Copy XML button.

The tool does not crawl your site or submit the file. Each URL gets a loc, a lastmod set to today, a changefreq, and a priority.

How to Use the Sitemap Generator

  1. Paste your Website URLs, one full address per line.
  2. Pick a Change Frequency. The default is weekly.
  3. Pick a Page Priority. The default is 0.8.
  4. Press Generate XML Sitemap. The text updates as you type.
  5. Check the status cards for the URL count and your chosen values.
  6. Press Copy XML, save it as sitemap.xml, and upload it to your server.

How the XML Is Built

The tool splits your text box into lines and trims blanks. It writes the XML header, then one url block per address, then the closing tag. The same frequency and priority apply to every URL.

URL List+Frequency+Priority=sitemap.xml
  • Each block holds loc, lastmod, changefreq, and priority tags.
  • The lastmod value is today's local date in YYYY-MM-DD form.
  • The namespace is the sitemaps.org schema version 0.9.
  • Blank lines in your list are skipped before building.

Worked Example

Elena lists three pages for a small site. She keeps the weekly frequency and the 0.8 priority. The tool stamps today as the lastmod for each URL.

TagValue for the Home URL
lochttps://example.com/
lastmod2026-10-29
changefreqweekly
priority0.8

The sample list holds the home, about, and contact pages, so the Total URLs card reads 3 URLs. The about and contact blocks repeat the same lastmod, frequency, and priority values.

How to Read the Results

Total URLs counts the non blank lines in your box. Frequency and Priority echo the two menus.

The output box holds the full XML. It opens with the XML declaration and the urlset tag, then your url blocks, then the closing urlset tag.

Save the text as sitemap.xml, upload it to your root, and submit the address in your search console account.

Priority runs from 0.0 to 1.0 and is a relative hint, so search engines may weigh it loosely. The change frequency is also a hint, not a promise of crawl timing.

Sitemap Tips and Common Errors

Enter full absolute URLs, each starting with https. A bare word like about becomes an invalid loc value, since the tool does not fix it.

The tool escapes special characters in each URL. An ampersand, angle bracket, or quote becomes its XML entity, so the loc tag stays well-formed. You can paste a raw address without hand encoding it.

Keep your robots file and sitemap in step. Link the sitemap inside your file with the robots.txt generator, and set page preferences with the canonical URL generator. For readable address paths, the URL slug generator helps.

Limitations and Assumptions

  • One frequency and one priority apply to every URL. You cannot set them per page.
  • The lastmod is always today, not the real date each page changed.
  • Lines are not validated, so any text becomes a loc, even if it is not a URL.
  • There is no check for the 50,000 URL or 50 MB sitemap limits.
  • The file is not uploaded, submitted, or tested against any schema.

After publishing, confirm each address resolves with the URL redirect checker. More options sit in the web and SEO tools hub.

FAQs About the Sitemap Generator

What Is an XML Sitemap?

It is a file that lists your pages for search engines. Each entry holds the URL plus optional hints like change frequency and priority.

Where Do I Put the Sitemap File?

Save the text as sitemap.xml and upload it to your site root. Then submit its address in your search console account.

Why Is the lastmod Date Always Today?

The tool stamps the current date on every URL. If you need true change dates per page, edit the file by hand after copying.

Can I Set a Different Priority per Page?

No. The two menus apply one frequency and one priority to all URLs. Split your pages into groups and run them separately if needed.

What Happens If I Leave the List Empty?

The tool shows a short message asking for at least one URL. The output box stays empty until you add a line.

Does a Sitemap Improve My Rankings?

No. A sitemap helps search engines discover pages, but it does not raise rankings on its own. Content and links still matter most.
