Time Zone Finder

Search seven saved city time zones by city, country, IANA name, abbreviation, or UTC offset, and see the live local time and current UTC offset of each match.

The tool knows seven cities. Abbreviations are matched as whole codes, so EST finds New York only. Each city shows one meaning of its abbreviation, so IST here is India Standard Time. Offset searches match the current, standard, or daylight saving offset. Local times, offsets, and daylight saving status are computed live from your browser.

About This Tool

Which time zone is Paris in, and what time is it there right now? The Time Zone Finder looks up a city, country, IANA name, abbreviation, or UTC offset in a small built-in list. It shows the live local time and offset of every match.

It is meant for travelers, support teams, and anyone filling in calendar or software settings. You also get a text table of the results that you can copy.

What the Finder Does

The finder holds seven saved cities. Your device clock and your browser's time zone data drive the live table.

  • Search City, Country, Abbreviation, or UTC Offset: the text box. It starts with New York and updates on every keystroke. There is no search button.
  • Matched Zones: how many of the seven cities match, written 1 Zone or 2 Zones.
  • IANA Identifier: the IANA name of a single match, Multiple (N) for several matches, or N/A.
  • Current UTC Offset: the live offset with its abbreviation, such as UTC-4 (EDT). It reads Multiple or N/A when there is not exactly one match.
  • Current Local Time (Live): a table with City, Local Time, Local Date, Current UTC Offset, and Daylight Saving. It refreshes every second.
  • Time Zone Reference Results: a read-only text box holding a Markdown-style table.
  • Copy Time Zone Specs: copies that text box to your clipboard.

How to Use It, Step by Step

  1. Click Search City, Country, Abbreviation, or UTC Offset.
  2. Type a city, a country such as India, a code such as PST, or an offset such as UTC+9.
  3. Check Matched Zones to see how many cities fit.
  4. Read the Current Local Time (Live) table for the time, date, offset, and daylight saving status.
  5. Read Time Zone Reference Results for the IANA name and both seasonal offsets.
  6. Press Copy Time Zone Specs. The button says Copied, Copy blocked, or Nothing to copy.

How the Search Works

The tool trims your text, ignores case and accents, and treats underscores as spaces. A match in any one field counts.

Your TextinCity, Country, Region, IANA, Alias, Code, Offset→Matching Cities

The saved cities are New York, London, Tokyo, Sydney, San Francisco, Paris, and New Delhi. Text must match the start of a word, so york finds New York but ork does not.

  • Aliases work: los angeles and california find San Francisco, while delhi and mumbai find New Delhi.
  • Abbreviations must be whole codes. Typing est finds New York only.
  • Offsets such as UTC+9 or +5:30 match a city's current, standard, or daylight saving offset.
  • An empty box lists all seven cities.

Worked Example With Fixed Dates

Type Paris. One city matches, and the cards read 1 Zone and Europe/Paris. The table shows what the live row and offset card would read at two fixed instants.

Field2026-07-15, 14:00 UTC2026-01-15, 14:00 UTC

Local DateWed, Jul 15Thu, Jan 15
Current UTC Offset cardUTC+2 (CEST)UTC+1 (CET)
Daylight SavingDaylight saving (active)Standard time

The results text shows the same Standard / DST UTC Offset on both dates: UTC+1 (CET) / UTC+2 (CEST). It also lists Europe, France, and the abbreviations CET / CEST.

Now type UTC+1. On both dates, London and Paris match. In July, London is on BST, which is UTC+1. In January, Paris is on CET, which is also UTC+1.

How to Read the Results

The results box is plain text, not a rendered table. Pipe symbols separate the columns, with double asterisks around the city and backticks around the IANA name and abbreviations.

The columns are City, Country, Region, IANA Timezone, Local Time Now, Current Offset, DST Status, Standard / DST UTC Offset, and Abbrev. A Snapshot line above the table gives the UTC moment the text was built. The text does not tick like the live table, so it refreshes when you type or copy.

The standard offset comes first and the daylight offset second. Tokyo and New Delhi list one offset because those zones stay fixed. New Delhi shows UTC+5:30, which is five hours and thirty minutes ahead of UTC.

When nothing matches, a red message names your search text. The results box stays empty, and the copy button has nothing to copy.

Standard Time Versus Daylight Time

A zone has a standard offset and, in some places, a daylight offset. The IANA name stays the same all year. Only the offset and the abbreviation change.

In 2026, daylight saving in the United States runs from Sunday, March 8, to Sunday, November 1. The United Kingdom and the European Union run from Sunday, March 29, to Sunday, October 25. Sydney ends on April 5 and restarts on October 4.

For a live conversion between two places, use the time zone converter. To see clocks for 20 zones, open the timezone list viewer.

The time zone reference tool works the same way but holds a different seven-city list. It swaps in Dubai and Los Angeles and adds a UTC clock card. If you work with logs, the Unix timestamp converter turns epoch values into dates. The business days calculator counts working days for deadlines. Browse the full set in the unit and time converters hub.

Limitations and Assumptions

  • Only seven cities are saved. Chicago, Dubai, and most of the world return no match.
  • Country search works only for the seven stored countries. Typing europe or asia matches by region.
  • Searching UTC returns no match, because the list has no UTC row. Searching GMT finds London.
  • Each city carries one meaning per abbreviation, and CST is not covered.
  • Results depend on your device clock. A wrong clock gives wrong times.
  • The copied text is a snapshot. It will not update after you paste it.

FAQs About the Time Zone Finder

Is the IANA name the same as a city name?

Not always. IANA names follow the pattern Area/City, but they pick a representative city. San Francisco uses America/Los_Angeles, and New Delhi uses Asia/Kolkata.

What does UTC-5 (EST) / UTC-4 (EDT) mean?

EST is Eastern Standard Time, 5 hours behind UTC. EDT is Eastern Daylight Time, 4 hours behind UTC. New York uses EST in winter and EDT in summer.

Why does IST mean India Standard Time here?

IST is also used for Irish and Israel time. The finder stores one meaning per city, and a note under the search box says IST here is India Standard Time.

Can I look up a time on another date?

No. The finder shows the present moment only. For a planned call, use a converter that lets you pick the date.

Does it update when daylight saving changes?

Yes. The offset, the label, and the local time come from your browser's time zone data. They switch on their own when a city changes its clocks.
